First elected in 2007, Victor Manalo, Ph.D., MSW, continues to serve as City Councilman for the City of Artesia, and he is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at California State University, Los Angeles.
Victor is a husband and father of 3 who has dedicated his life to serving the community as a professional social worker, as an active parishioner at Holy Family Church, and as a City Councilman. Victor prides himself on keeping local government non-partisan, while advocating for inclusive social policy and recognizing the need for balanced budgets and responsible spending.
As Mayor of Artesia in 2010-11, Victor held quarterly town hall meetings to identify what issues Artesians really cared about. “I felt that it was important to give residents a venue to express their views and find out what the city was doing for them,” describes Victor. Victor’s ultimate goal is a community that is highly engaged in the city’s governance.
Victor graduated with his B.S. in Social Work from Marquette University, went on to receive his Masters in Social Work from Cal State Long Beach, and eventually completed his formal education with his Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Southern California.
Victor lives in Artesia with his wife and three children (aged 19, 12, and 10 years), who have all received their education here in the ABC Unified School District. By balancing his obligations as a husband, father, professor, and City Councilman, Victor is dedicated to engaging the residents of Artesia and demonstrating to them how important it is to be active in local government and how it influences the lives of each and every one of us.
