Business & Economy
Our downtown business area is one of the most important sections of our city, and one of the many features that makes Artesia unique. The opportunities for revenue in this area are truly endless. Artesia is already an international city with many distinct cultural influences, and I believe that our downtown area has the capacity to be an international shopping and dining destination for people coming to the Los Angeles area.
Recently, I saw just how much our downtown needs to grow. When I helped revise the downtown parking ordinances to help businesses grow and worked to bring in a new parking lot to accommodate more shoppers and businesses the results were dramatic. But I think we can do even more.
As our downtown continues to grow, I will work to make sure that Artesia remains safe, clean, and attractive. Additionally, because many commuters drive through Artesia to access freeways and businesses outside of Artesia, we have a unique opportunity to increase revenues from people living outside of Artesia. When elected, I will ensure that our downtown area is a culturally diverse and highly modern center that people will flock to when they come to Artesia. I will continue to put resources towards our downtown area to attract residents, visitors, and businesses.
Facilitating the movement of businesses into Artesia has always and will continue to be a priority of mine. I helped re-start the Artesia Chamber of Commerce after its termination due to corruption and I served on the city’s Planning commission for several years. I played a role in streamlining the permitting process for businesses and I have championed improving both City Hall’s reputation with business owners and City Hall’s service to the business community.
The area that the city currently owns just off the 91 freeway is also ready to be put to use. I am confident that through collaboration with our new City Manager, we can turn that land into something our residents can be proud of while at the same time bringing in further revenue to the city.
Having been on the Council since 2007, I know we are in an important time in Artesia’s development and I am ready to put in my time, effort, and passion into bringing Artesia to new heights.
