As I approach my 8th year of service as your Councilmember, I am truly thankful for your trust, support, and concern.
My priority this year has been for the Artesia City Council to pass an ordinance to protect people and property from storefront crashes. Unfortunately, a storefront crash in April 2014 in Buena Park, CA killed my 73-year-old mother-in-law Marisa Malin and severely injured my daughters. While we are supremely thankful that our daughters have physically recovered from their injuries and that our son escaped the crash without injury, we continue to struggle to cope with the trauma and our grave loss.
Recently, CBS2 News reported on our efforts to pass this ordinance (link to story).
It is estimated that over 21,000 of these types of storefront crashes occur every year in the United States, resulting in over 12,000 injuries, over 450 deaths, and millions of dollars in property damage. Please join me in supporting these types of ordinances to protect people and property our communities.
